The world as we know it is no longer a choice. We are in the midst of a socio-ecological crisis whose beginnings go back some 150 years. It remains uncertain whether we will live in a fairer, safer and healthier world or experience the opposite, or whether humanity will even abolish itself. At this time, the world urgently needs artists - but what can they actually do? Insights and practical examples will be presented and discussed on these and other existential questions during the expert discussion with Gloria Benedikt.
Über Gloria Benedikt
Gloria Benedikt was trained at the Ballet School of the Vienna State Opera and the English National Ballet School in London. Starting in 2002, she worked as a dancer in several ensembles in Europe and the USA. In 2008, she simultaneously began studying at Harvard University and completed her social sciences degree in 2013. From 2015 to 2020, she led the Science and Art project at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) in Laxenburg near Vienna. She explored whether and how collaboration between scientists and artists can support the sustainability transformation and has authored several publications on this topic. The multimedia, partly interactive dance theater pieces she develops with a group of scientists and artists are presented in theaters, at international conferences, and at universities. She has directed over a dozen pieces to date. www.gloriabenedikt.com
